You and a group of friends use your smart phones to join the world of espionage in a real life game of cloak and dagger. You must decipher allies from enemy operatives and work with your teammates to neutralize your enemy before they get to you first. Using many features of your mobile device, you can complete missions that will allow you to bring yourself or your fellow agents back to life. Be careful who you trust and remember to keep your allies close and your enemies in your sights.
This started as my thesis project at Kendall. I wanted to come up with something that would use many features of the iPhone and realized that it was the perfect spy device with the ability to record audio and video, use gps, allow for countless gestures, not to mention being easily concealable. I did a lot of research and found very few good spy apps, especially being used in the way i wanted, as a multi player game.
I used me usual design process and started with research. I then got a lot of potential users feedback on features that would make sense. From this I discovered that the gun was the most interesting and important to the app and things like disabling a bomb, cracking a safe, injecting other agents with truth serum, ect. were secondary.
I then started wireframe sketches to get an idea of placement of elements and what screens are necessary. I took these and did high fidelity wireframes that were a lot more buttoned down. After creating the high fidelity wireframes and putting them on an iPhone, In going from wireframes to final design, I realized that the placement of the buttons was not a very good user experience so I reworked the design by moving all of the nav buttons from the top to the left side of the screen.
Next I moved into the development phase which in this case was building a prototype in Adobe Flash. This was the first app I developed in Flash so it was a big learning experience but I was pleased with how quickly I was able to get something functional onto the phone to begin testing.
My next step will be to do user testing. I have given the app to people and asked them to tell me the point of the app and had them do minor tasks but hope to do testing in a more planned out way and record the screen and their expressions while using it. I am not sure this is an app that will ever make it to development but it has been a very fun and educational piece for me.
